The Mirror Lake Inn Resort is a recipient of AAA’s Four Diamond Award for 24 years in a row.  The inn is in the Town of Lake Placid in the Adirondack region of New York State.  It is really a special place.  I have gone there 2 years in a row for a girls weekend.  We like it because you can park your car at the resort and not have to move it all weekend if you choose not to.  The resort has a lot to offer:  3 restaurants, activities for all seasons, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, a small beach and a spa.  Not to mention the close proximity to the Olympic Village of lake Placid with shopping, dining and winter sports opportunities.

The hotel is charming, with afternoon tea and the inn’s famous chocolate chip cookies and many comfortable places to enjoy the treats.  There are many room categories, from basic to ultra luxurious suites.  The basic rooms are an affordable way,  particularly in the off season, to experience all the hotel has to offer.

The spa is rather on the small side.  A whirlpool, steam room, spa sanctuary with fireplace and locker rooms are featured on the women’s side.  The spa sanctuary is comfortable, but it gets very crowded in-between treatments when guests are waiting to be called by their therapists.  This spa isn’t dated, but it hasn’t really kept up with new spa technology.

There is an Adirondack themed indoor pool, sauna and whirlpool on the same level as the spa and fitness center.  To get to the pool, you have to leave the spa area, which is only available to guests having treatments, and walk down a short hallway.  A little inconvenient, but worth it when you see the pool area.  The whirlpool is really unique – featuring an unusual shape and colored lights.  This is perhaps the best part of the post-spa treatment ritual.

If your staying at the Mirror Lake Inn or in the Lake Placid area, I would highly recommend a visit to this spa.  If you aren’t, there are other spas that are more luxurious and interesting for a similar value.
