What is an affusion/effusion? February 24, 2009

Affusions are common spa treatments in Europe, but little known in US spas.   According to merriam.webster.com, it is “the act of pouring a liquid on”.

What does that translate to in terms of a spa treatment?  A continuous pouring of warm herbal oil, milk, yogurt, medicated oil or other soothing liquid.  It can also be spelled ‘effusion’.   If you’ve ever had a spa treatment known as Shirodhara, you’ve had an affusion/effusion.
