There are many different types of spas : Wellness Spa, Resort/Hotel Spa, Day Spa, Medical Spa. This post explores the Destination Spa.
According to spafinder.com, destination spas offer a full-immersion spa experience in which all guests participate. All-inclusive programs provide fitness activities, nutritious spa cuisine, various therapeutic spa and body treatments, educational classes, and often mind/body/spirit offerings to help you jump-start a new, more healthful lifestyle.
I like to describe a destination spa this way: the spa is the destination itself. The area around the spa may have become developed because the spa draws people there.
There are websites devoted to destination spas. For example: http://www.destinationspagroup.com/
Some popular destination spas include:
- Canyon Ranch (Lenox, MA or Tuscon, AZ)
- Red Mountain Spa (Utah)
- Golden Door (California)
There are even Facebook groups dedicated to destination spas.
