My review of Spa Mirbeau at the Mirbeau Inn & Spa is long overdue.  Not because my last visit was 2 to 3 years ago (2006/2007), but because it is a natural choice for a spa getaway if you live in Central New York.  Less than 45 minutes West of Syracuse, the town of Skaneateles features quaint shops and restaurants and of course its prime location on Skaneateles Lake.

You only need to take a peek at the Awards and Accolades page on Mirbeau’s website to know they are doing something right here.  AAA, the Mobil Travel Guide, Spa Finder, Spa, and travelchannel.com are among the many who have praised Mirbeau over the years.

About the only thing missing from Spa Mirbeau was a whirlpool.  Mirbeau closed this gap in recent years with the addition of the Aqua Terrace – a 15 person outdoor whirlpool featuring a waterfall and an outdoor fireplace.

I’ve visited Spa Mirbeau on 4 occasions since it opened in 2000.  I’ve never stayed overnight, but friends who have stayed at the Inn have had great things to report.  During my day visits, I’ve always felt completely removed from the world during my visits, and emerged refreshed and revived.  On one occasion I stayed overnight at the Finger Lakes Lodging, Mirbeau’s sister property located across the street.  This was a terrific way to experience Mirbeau on a budget.

Some highlights of the spa:

  • Classically designed co-ed resting area with heated footpool and fireplace
  • Locker room with herbal infused steam room and dry sauna
  • Fitness area and motion studio
  • Extensive treatment menu
  • Aqua terrace featuring a 15 person outdoor whirlpool and fireplace

50 minutes spa treatments start at $130 on the weekends (Fri-Sun).  Prices are less during the week.   Mirbeau adds on an 18% gratuity to all spa services and spa packages.  15% of this goes to the therapist and 3% goes to the spa support staff.

Over the years, Mirbeau has been known for some minor service issues.  I’ve experienced this myself, mainly in the form of spa desk personnel who were not as accommodating as I would expect from such a highly rated establishment.  I suspect they have worked some of these issues out based on recent ratings and reviews.

Bottom line – Mirbeau is not to be missed!
