MGM Grand Las Vegas

This was the spa that ignited my passion for spas. On a trip to Las Vegas with my husband and some friends about 10 years ago, we stayed at the MGM Grand. I had never been to a spa before and noticed the Grand Spa when I was checking out brochures in the hotel room. It was January and the temperature was in the 50’s. It was quite cold for Las Vegas. We’re not really gamblers and it was just a bit too cold to hang out by the pool for long, so I thought I would give this spa thing a try.
I headed down to the spa early that morning and purchased a day pass to use the spa facilities for $35. As I was led around on my spa tour, I was in awe. Whirlpool, sauna, eucalyptus steam rooms, luxurious relaxation lounges, stacks and stacks of the thickest towels I had ever seen – and I could play here all day! And I did. I spent 4 hours there. And then I went back that night! It was more fun getting ready for a night on the town in my spa than it was getting ready in my room. I was truly hooked, and I hadn’t even had a spa treatment yet.
After that, I started going to Las Vegas almost annually. And I had a ritual. Every trip, I would visit two spas. One of them could be a spa I had visited before and loved, the other had to be a spa I had never been to before. And if I thought the MGM Grand Spa was, well, grand, I hadn’t seen anything yet. There was Spa Bellagio, the Canyon Ranch Spa Club at the Venetian, Spa Mandalay, THEbathhouse spa at THEhotel at Mandalay bay, The Spa at Treasure Island, Qua Baths and Spa at Caesars Palace. And the list goes on and on.
The hotel spa scene is really amazing in Las Vegas. But not all spas are known for their treatments. These places are BIG. In some case 50,000 square feet or larger. There is no intimacy. I’m not saying you can’t get a good treatment here, but the treatment is often secondary to the experience.
If you’re planning a visit to the Grand Spa, don’t expect too much information from the MGM Grand Spa website. It’s surprisingly sparse. Here is a list of the spa amenities:
- Steam room
- Relaxation lounges
- State of the art fitness center
- Salon by Cristophe
- Locker room with showers
- Slippers, towels and robe provided
- Vanity amenities
- Fruit juices
I’ve stayed at the MGM Grand on four visits to Las Vegas. I don’t always visit the spa there because I am looking for variety. If you are staying at the MGM Grand, this is a convenient choice. Although the walk from the rooms to the pool/salon/spa area is a long one. You have to walk through the casino and through Studio Walk – a shopping and dining mecca. If you are staying elsewhere on the strip, there are many luxurious and modern spas to choose from.
